EMILIO GIL MOYA

Investigación innovadora y transferencia de calidad para una agricultura atractiva

University Professor in the Department of Agri-Food Engineering and Biotechnology at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

He is part of the Department of Agri-Food Engineering and Biotechnology at UPC, where he leads the Agricultural Mechanization Unit.

Emilio Gil, coordinator of the INNOSETA project under the European Horizon 2020 program, has advised national and international organizations, including the Ministry of Agriculture in the development of the Royal Decree on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides. He is the author of the Manual for the Inspection of Application Equipment and a full member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors, being the first European agronomic engineer to join this institution. Additionally, he has been a professor at Cornell University, United States.

Emilio Gil has also been a professor at Cornell University in the United States and is the author of more than 50 scientific articles in international journals and over 200 technical and outreach articles, as well as several books in the field of agri-food engineering. He serves as editor and expert reviewer for scientific journals in the sector and has delivered numerous international conferences. A member of various organizations in the agri-food engineering field, he has received several awards, including the Manuel Campos Lafuente Wine Research Award in 2002, the award from the College of Agronomic Engineers of Central and Canary Regions in 2002, and the Fertiberia Award for Best Doctoral Thesis (runner-up) in 2004.

He served as director of the Government of Aragón office in Brussels (2016) and was a member of the expert group “Ejea Avanza” for managing the COVID-19 crisis in Ejea de los Caballeros (Zaragoza). He is president of the technical innovations jury at FIMA and president of AESAVE (Spanish Association of Plant Health).

Professor Gil has delivered more than 60 invited lectures across all EU countries and most countries in the Americas. He is also the author of the books Zarpazos en el Alma (Ed. Los libros del Gato Negro, 2017), Banda de música de Rivas – Conmemoración de un siglo y cuarto de andanzas musicales (Ed. DPZ, 2008), Historia del socialismo y sindicalismo en Rivas (Ed. DPZ, 2010), and Días de Campo (2019).

Enric Armengol

Agricultural Technical Engineer (UPC) and Executive MBA (EADA).

Enric has extensive experience in marketing and sales within the agricultural sector. He has taken on increasing responsibilities, reaching executive positions in multinational agricultural machinery companies.

A professional with strategic vision, negotiation skills, interpersonal abilities, and problem-solving capacity. He has extensive experience in managing and motivating work teams, as well as in the administration and management of financial resources.

Jordi Llop

Doctor of Agricultural Engineering (UPC) and Agricultural Engineer (UdL)

Holding an MBA from UPC and a Technical Agricultural Engineering degree (UPC), he is a lecturer at the Escola d’Enginyeria Agroalimentària i Biotecnologia de Barcelona (EEABB), teaching courses in the field of agroforestry engineering.

He currently serves as Deputy Director of Corporate Relations and is also a researcher at the Agricultural Mechanization Unit. He has dedicated much of his professional career to studying and evaluating phytosanitary application techniques across all types of crops. He has also investigated precision agriculture techniques, particularly in the use of sensors (both tractor-mounted and field-installed for crop monitoring) and equipment connected to precision agriculture devices. He has participated in projects funded by the European H2020 program, the LIFE program, Erasmus+, projects financed by the Spanish State Research Agency, and projects with FEADER funds. As an important part of knowledge transfer to the sector, he has collaborated with leading agricultural companies through training and research agreements.

Javier Campos

PhD in Agri-food Technology and Biotechnology from the UPC

Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and a graduate in Agricultural Engineering from UPC. Lecturer at EEABB ‒ UPC through a “Beatriz Galindo” fellowship.

Ha sido investigador PostDoc en la Ohio State University (Columbus, OH, USA) en colaboración con el U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Su investigación se centra en la evaluación de sistemas de aplicación variable para la mejora de la eficiencia de los tratamientos fitosanitarios. Ha sido galardonado con el Premio Special Doctoral Award 2022/2023 de la UPC por su tesis doctoral titulada «Tecnologías emergentes y agricultura de precisión en cultivos tridimensionales: implementación y mejora de las técnicas de aplicación de fitosanitarios en viña» y con el Premio 2020 Per Gummer Andersen Award de la Association of Applied Biologists.

Nuria Carazco

Doctor of Agricultural Engineering from UPC

Nuria Carazo Gómez, PhD in Agricultural Engineering, trained at EEABB of UPC and ETSEALL of UdL, initially collaborated on the adaptation and improvement of Mediterranean plants (1st European Project of EEABB) and on various projects related to the research line of her doctoral thesis in the horticultural sector.

In recent years, he has devoted part of his work to management and coordination within the EEABB leadership team and participation in projects increasingly linked to sustainability: (1) environmental study of covered greenhouses for optimizing substrates and crop management protocols; (2) study of the implications of agricultural crops (currently, BIORISK); (3) optimization of phytosanitary product use in crops to enhance production sustainability; (4) projects on the potential of direct osmosis for the treatment of water from canals, wells, and other sources, as well as the use of reclaimed water (BIOVERD, 2023–2024); and (5) the European SYMBIOSYST project for studying and optimizing the symbiosis of photovoltaic energy with horticultural production (2023–2026).
