CULTISENSOR

A little bit about the project:

CULTISENSOR is a project funded through the “Innovative Business Clusters 2023” call of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, through the State Research Agency, with support from the European Union – NextGenerationEU / PRTR.

The project arises in response to the profound changes facing the agricultural sector, driven by digitalization, ecological transition, and new social and economic demands. CULTISENSOR seeks to leverage the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve soil monitoring and optimize crop efficiency, opening new opportunities for sustainability, productivity, and resilience in the agri-food sector.

  • Context and need of the project

In recent years, Spanish agriculture has experienced a significant increase in investment in innovation. The 2020 pandemic, the Russia–Ukraine conflict, and droughts resulting from climate change have highlighted the strategic importance of the sector, accelerating the transition toward more digital, efficient, and sustainable agricultural models.

This scenario requires advanced technological tools that allow:

  • Manage natural resources better.
  • Increase crop productivity and quality.
  • Reduce operating costs and environmental risks.
  • Addressing the labor shortage through automation and artificial intelligence.

  • Main objective

To integrate Artificial Intelligence into soil monitoring to generate key information that improves crop efficiency, optimizes agronomic management, and promotes more sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

  • Project focus and strategy:

I. Multi-sector collaboration

The project consortium brings together various companies and entities that contribute expertise in:

  • Agricultural technology.
  • Data management.
  • Sensor systems.
  • Agronomy and sustainability.

This collaborative strategy guarantees a complete view of the agri-food value chain.

II. AI applied to deep soil monitoring

CULTISENSOR develops AI-based solutions for:

  • Analyze data from sensors and other sources.
  • Detect soil patterns and needs.
  • Generate well-founded agronomic recommendations.
  • Facilitate decision-making to maximize efficiency and sustainability.
III. Digital transformation of the sector

The project aligns with emerging trends in the agriculture of the future:

  • Precision agriculture.
  • Digitization of processes.
  • Cognitive technologies to address the labor shortage.
  • Optimization of water and nutrient resources.
  • Benefits and contributions

CULTISENSOR contributes to the advancement of the agricultural sector through:

  • Better soil management, based on accurate and up-to-date data.
  • Increased productive efficiency, by applying inputs only where they are needed.
  • Reduction of environmental impacts, thanks to more informed agronomic decisions.
  • Greater resilience of the agricultural system, in the face of adverse climatic and economic scenarios.
  • Real integration of AI as an everyday tool in field management.
  • Towards a smarter and more sustainable agriculture

CULTISENSOR represents a key step in the digital transformation of the Spanish agricultural sector. Its focus on artificial intelligence applied to soil monitoring enables progress toward more precise, sustainable, and resilient production systems, ensuring a stronger, modern, and environmentally friendly agriculture.
